Capstone Collection: Altiforma

2025

This collection is a study in breathability, balance, and resilience, where garments are not just worn, but experienced.

From technical silhouettes shaped by mountain and sea, to a backpack that breathes with the body, my work reimagines outdoor wear through a lens of adaptability and quiet innovation.

The collection primarily uses two types of fabric: yellow waterproof nylon and breathable green polyester jersey knit. The geometric design not only creates visual balance but also helps cool the body temperature. The jacket features two invisible zippers, hidden along the seam between the jersey and nylon panels. To enhance water resistance, the entire jacket is fully seam-taped, preventing moisture from seeping through.

An adjustable elastic cord with a grommet at the hem allows for length customization, while an elastic band at the sleeve hem reduces movement and enhances comfort. The hood is also threaded with an elastic cord, accommodating different body and head shapes for a better fit.

Echoing the jacket’s design philosophy, the pants combine functionality with thoughtful detailing. Four pockets — two slash side pockets and two concealed invisible pockets — provide versatile storage for hiking and outdoor pursuits.

The traditional waistband is replaced with a streamlined elastic design, eliminating the need for belt loops and fly closures for ease of wear and removal. Adjustable elastic hems allow for personalized fit and silhouette control. Like the jacket, the pants are fully seam-taped, ensuring comprehensive protection against the elements.

Pattern, sample & fit

As this was my first experience constructing a backpack, I developed several prototypes to perfect the shape and structure. The final version features invisible zippers, subtly hidden within the seams of geometric panels, continuing the visual language established in the jacket and pants. While the fabric appears consistent with the garments, it is reinforced with a waterproof fused layer on the reverse side, enhancing both thickness and water resistance.

Operated by sensor

Paper testing

The fan system comes in two modes: one with a manual on/off switch, and another that activates via body sensor. The fan panels were repurposed from used ventilated car seats, designed to run on any standard power bank. In testing, a compact 10,000mAh battery provided up to 10 hours of operation. An internal pocket securely holds the battery, preventing it from moving during use. The fan panel is fully removable — simply unzip from the interior to detach it, offering flexibility for users who prefer a more traditional backpack experience.
